You will learn to identify tank specifications, conduct mandatory inspections (visual, pressure, leakage, thickness) per 49 CFR Part 180, understand repair/testing procedures, and apply safety protocols for loading, unloading, and emergency response.

DOT requirements for cargo and portable tanks (49 CFR 171-180) mandate specialized training for employees handling, loading, or transporting hazardous materials in bulk packaging. Key training covers operating emergency controls, vehicle stability (surge/gravity), and loading/unloading procedures. Training must be refreshed at least every three years

Cargo tanks and portable tanks are DOT-regulated bulk packaging for hazardous materials, with cargo tanks permanently attached to vehicles (loaded/unloaded on-vehicle) and portable tanks designed for removal, featuring skids or mountings. Requirements include DOT registration for testing, specialized training, and regular pressure/visual inspections.
