Course Overview
This training program prepares participants to serve as a Competent Person for confined space operations by developing the knowledge and skills necessary to identify existing and predictable hazards, conduct hazard assessments, implement control measures, and verify safe conditions for entry into confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces.
The course addresses regulatory requirements, hazard recognition, atmospheric monitoring, permit systems, isolation procedures, rescue planning, and the Competent Person’s role in protecting workers during confined space activities.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Define confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces.
- Explain the responsibilities and authority of a Competent Person.
- Interpret applicable confined space regulations and standards.
- Identify atmospheric, physical, mechanical, electrical, biological, and engulfment hazards.
- Conduct and document confined space hazard assessments.
- Evaluate and implement hazard control measures.
- Verify proper lockout/tagout and isolation procedures.
- Perform and interpret atmospheric monitoring results.
- Review and authorize confined space entry permits.
- Evaluate rescue and emergency response requirements.
- Determine acceptable entry conditions and corrective actions when hazards are present.
- Apply competent person responsibilities to real-world confined space operations.
Prerequisites
Participants should:
- Have a basic understanding of workplace safety principles.
- Be familiar with confined space operations or supervision responsibilities.
Recommendation:
- Prior confined space awareness or entrant-level training.

- Ability to view PDF documents

Criteria for Earning IACET
To receive 0.8 IACET CEU, participants must:

- Achieving a minimum passing score of 80% on course assessments
